Room 222

date: 09.2008
commissioned by: Lloyd hotel Amsterdam
type: interior project
made possible by: De Ploeg

The famous Dutch Lloyd hotel in Amsterdam asked Ontwerpduo to design a temporary hotel room especially for children during 'Inside design 2008' organised by Elle Wonen. Room 222, a room in which the children could experience the exhibition for four days long.

Concept: Children's toys don't seem to fit in beautiful houses. The world of adults and the world of children are two different worlds. For this project, We created special items. Designed to fit in a beautiful house, but also cool for kids to play with. These items don't immediately look like toys, children like it, they can use their own imagination.

'Don't play with your food, don't touch the curtains or don't play with the furniture' are things every child must have heard more than once. But why can't they, and why is every kid doing this unconsciously? Maybe the products and furniture is not made to do this according to adults? In room 222 all these things were allowed. Children played with the furniture, nice patterns were woven in the pillows and the curtains. And all kinds of different games were played with the marbelous table. 'Play with your food' was also allowed. Children ate their drawings or ate their clayed eatable little figures.

Designed items by Ontwerpduo: Curtains: Raster, Pillows: Raster, Clay to eat, Drawings to eat, Table: Marbelous
